I am excited to announce that I am officially running for Place 4 on the Denton ISD School Board!
After dedicating 24 years of my life to the kids of Denton ISD as a teacher and principal, I’m ready to give back in a new way. I’ve had the privilege of seeing the district through the eyes of an employee and a parent.
I am a dedicated educator, community leader, and retired U.S. Air Force veteran. From 1995 to 1999, I served as a Medical Laboratory Technician in the Air Force before transitioning to a fulfilling career in education. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University in 1993, a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in 2005, and a doctoral degree (including a superintendent certification) in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas in 2018.
My educational journey began as a middle school teacher in Massachusetts. I joined Denton ISD in 1999 as a Health Science Technology Teacher and later became a chemistry teacher and swim coach at Denton High School. In 2005, I stepped into administration as an assistant principal at Denton High, followed by seven years in the same role at McMath Middle School (2008-2015) and a year at Denton High (2015-2016). I served as the principal of Davis School from 2016 to 2018 before returning to McMath as principal, where I led the campus for six years until my retirement in December 2023.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked to enhance campus culture, reduce staff turnover, and drive instructional excellence. I am deeply committed to fostering relationships, building community partnerships, and giving back to the place I call home.
Beyond my professional roles, I have a strong passion for community service and leadership. Currently, I serve as a Board Member for the United Way of Denton County, working to improve lives through education, income, and health initiatives. I was honored as the 2019 Ambassador of the Year for my contributions to the organization. I’ve also served on the district’s Technology Advisory Council (TAC) and Compensation Committee, working to support staff with effective compensation strategies.
For fourteen years, I presented, trained, and mentored educators through Denton ISD’s First Year Teacher Academy and participated in the Adopt-A-School Business Partnership Program. I’ve represented the district at recruiting fairs and worked as a guest interviewer for administrative interns in collaboration with Dallas Baptist University and Denton ISD. From 2018 to 2020, I served as president of the Denton Public School Administrators Association, having previously held the vice president role. Additionally, I was honored to speak at the Annual Denton High School ROTC Awards Banquet, sharing messages on leadership and life choices. I continue to volunteer with Mission Moms and Denton ISD, collecting, packing, and delivering food and school supplies to families in need.
Originally from Massachusetts, I now live in Denton with my wife, Jacqui. Our children, Peyton and Emma, are proud Denton ISD alumni.
I’m Buddy Dunworth and I'd be honored to have your support in my run for the Denton ISD School Board.
